Historicity
It is believed that this ancient temple was built during the reign of the Chawl dynasty in the twelfth century. It is famous among ancient tirths of Tamilandu. The idols of Dharmadevi, Saraswatcdevi, Padmavatidevi, Jawalamalini and others in the temple are very miraculous and impressive. Brahamotsava is arranged here every year on the tenth day of the bright half of the month of Vaishakh.
