It is in the center of the city of Patna.
Historicity
The present day city of Patna was Kusumpur in ancient times. It was settled by Udayan, a follower of the Jain religion, in memory of his father. The large city was the capital of the Magadhas. King Udayan built in it Jain temples, Gajashalas, Ashvashalas, Pansadhashalas, dispensaries etc. This is the birth place of Yashobhadrasurishvarji, the disciple of Jambuswami, of Bhadrabahuswami and of other great sadhus. The royal courtesan named Kosa lived in this city. Munishri Sthulibhadraji asked permission for his monsoon sojourn in her house got it and changed the courtesan kosa into a Shravika observing the twelve vows. This is a long-remembered incident in the history of the Jain religion. The two sects of Svetambars and Digambars can into existence since the times of Sthulibhadra. Sthulibhadraji died here in the year 311 A.D. This place was a very prosperous city of Jains till the seventh century. Later on, it was divided in small towns. Sheth Sudarshan also died here. It is said that he was taken to the gallows but by virtue of navkar mantra, the gallows were changed into a throne. The memorial is present here even today.
Other Temples
Besides this temple, there are at present a Svetamber temple, five Digambar temples, the memorial of Sudarshan Sheth (gulzar baug) on the bank of a pond and the memorial of Arya Sthulibhadraji.
Works of art and Sculpture
The ancient idol of Bhagawan Parshvanath is very beautiful and splendid. The idol in the Digambar temple is also beautiful and spectacular. The idols in the Museum here, in the Kanodiya Sangrahalaya and the Jalan Sangrahalaya are full of ancient works of art they are matchless and spectacular.
Guidelines
The chief railway station of Patna is at a distance of one kilometer from the temple. Bus service and private vehicles are available. Boarding and lodging provisions are there.
